PUNCTURE INFORMATION

A puncture is not always a simple repair.

Some punctures can be professionally repaired. Others require replacement because of damage location, tyre condition or evidence the tyre was used while seriously underinflated.

Safety, location, tyre availability and equipment requirements are assessed before any service can be agreed.

We can help you explain the problem and explore a suitable professional assessment. Repair suitability cannot be decided from a photograph or website form alone.

How enquiries work ↗

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

When might this be relevant?

No two breakdowns are identical. These are common reasons people ask about puncture assessment.

A tyre slowly loses pressure after inflation.
You suspect a nail or similar object in the tread.
You have a flat tyre but do not know whether repair is possible.
WHAT TO TELL US

A few important details

  • The tyre size and vehicle type, if known
  • A description of pressure loss or any visible damage
  • Whether the tyre has been driven flat or very low on pressure
  • Your safe location and the side of the vehicle affected

Only obtain these details when it is safe. Do not inspect a tyre beside motorway traffic.

A STRAIGHTFORWARD PROCESS

How the options are considered.

Assessment and any next steps must reflect the real location, equipment, safety conditions and availability—not a website promise.

01

Locate and inspect the damage

A trained technician needs to inspect the tyre externally and internally to assess whether it meets applicable repair standards.

02

Check structural condition

Sidewall and shoulder damage, internal deterioration or severe underinflation can rule out repair.

03

Recommend an appropriate option

Depending on the findings, the correct next step may be a professional permanent repair or a suitable replacement tyre.

WORTH KNOWING

What counts as a permanent repair?

Industry guidance explains that a permanent repair typically requires appropriate materials applied from inside the tyre after full inspection. A sealant or temporary mobility kit is not equivalent to a permanent professional puncture repair.

Safety first

For motorway breakdowns, the official Highway Code explains how to get left, get safe and get help.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Good to know before you enquire.

Useful answers about puncture assessment, safe arrangements and what we can and cannot confirm online.

Can you repair a sidewall puncture?

Damage to the tyre sidewall or shoulder generally prevents a conventional safe repair. The tyre needs professional assessment, and replacement is often necessary.

Is a tyre sealant kit a permanent fix?

No. Sealants and temporary mobility kits are intended as temporary measures, subject to the manufacturer’s instructions and professional assessment.

Could a slow puncture be a valve issue?

Pressure loss can have several causes, including a puncture, valve or wheel issue. The cause must be diagnosed rather than assumed.

Can a photograph confirm a repair?

No. A photograph may help describe what happened but cannot replace a proper internal and external tyre inspection.
