PASSENGER + LIGHT COMMERCIAL

Different vehicles. Different tyre requirements.

Cars, estates, SUVs and light commercial vans do not always use the same tyres, even where some dimensions look alike. The proper specification is essential for safety and vehicle suitability.

Safety, location, tyre availability and equipment requirements are assessed before any service can be agreed.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

When might this be relevant?

No two breakdowns are identical. These are common reasons people ask about car & van tyres.

You need a replacement for a car, SUV or light van.
You are unsure what the load index or “C” marking means.
A vehicle carries varying loads and needs the appropriate tyre specification.
WHAT TO TELL US

A few important details

  • Make, model and vehicle registration if available
  • Tyre sidewall marking including any C, XL or other designation
  • Whether the vehicle is a car, SUV or light commercial van
  • The axle, number of tyres and any relevant load requirements

Only obtain these details when it is safe. Do not inspect a tyre beside motorway traffic.

A STRAIGHTFORWARD PROCESS

How the options are considered.

Assessment and any next steps must reflect the real location, equipment, safety conditions and availability—not a website promise.

01

Understand the vehicle

The vehicle, permissible loads and manufacturer-specified tyres help establish what can be fitted.

02

Check the complete tyre marking

Load index, speed rating, size and relevant reinforced/commercial designations matter, not just the rim size.

03

Confirm a suitable proposal

Stock, fitting access and any proposed price or arrangements must be checked and accepted before assistance is confirmed.

WORTH KNOWING

Tyre ratings matter

The two numbers and letters at the end of a marking such as 205/55 R16 91V include load and speed ratings. Always use a tyre specification appropriate to the vehicle and its requirements; never substitute based on appearance alone.

Safety first

For motorway breakdowns, the official Highway Code explains how to get left, get safe and get help.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Good to know before you enquire.

Useful answers about car & van tyres, safe arrangements and what we can and cannot confirm online.

Are car and van tyres interchangeable?

Not automatically. Van and passenger tyres can have different load capacities and construction. The manufacturer’s requirements and complete specification must be checked.

What does XL mean on a tyre?

XL commonly indicates an extra-load tyre. Whether it is appropriate depends on the vehicle specification and the complete tyre rating.

Can you supply commercial van tyres?

You can submit an enquiry for appropriate van tyre sizes, but the exact stock, suitable equipment and resources must be confirmed.

Do you need my vehicle registration?

A registration may assist identification, but you should also provide the full tyre marking where it is safe to do so.
