SAFETY-LED PLANNING

The safest next step starts with the right location.

When a tyre problem happens near fast-moving traffic, where the vehicle is stopped can determine whether any mobile work is appropriate. Sometimes recovery or road-authority assistance is needed first.

Safety, location, tyre availability and equipment requirements are assessed before any service can be agreed.

We help you organise the relevant location information for an enquiry. We do not treat a motorway hard shoulder or emergency area as an ordinary tyre-fitting site.

How enquiries work ↗

UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

When might this be relevant?

No two breakdowns are identical. These are common reasons people ask about safe-location assistance.

You stopped in a service station or suitable car park.
You need to describe a safe stopping point near a major road.
Your current position may require traffic authority or recovery involvement.
WHAT TO TELL US

A few important details

  • Motorway/road and direction of travel
  • Nearest exit, services, marker or safely obtained postcode
  • Whether you are at services, off-road, on a hard shoulder or emergency area
  • Whether police, road authorities or a recovery service are involved

Only obtain these details when it is safe. Do not inspect a tyre beside motorway traffic.

A STRAIGHTFORWARD PROCESS

How the options are considered.

Assessment and any next steps must reflect the real location, equipment, safety conditions and availability—not a website promise.

01

Clarify the location

A road name, direction and nearest junction or service area help identify the situation.

02

Consider safe working conditions

Vehicle position, surrounding traffic, access, permissions and potential hazards affect whether mobile tyre work is suitable.

03

Identify the appropriate next step

The answer may be mobile tyre assistance at a suitable safe location, or recovery to another location before tyre work can proceed.

WORTH KNOWING

Hard shoulders are not workshops

The Highway Code treats motorway hard shoulders and emergency areas as emergency stopping places, not routine repair locations. If your vehicle cannot reach a service station or exit, follow official guidance and seek appropriate help.

Safety first

For motorway breakdowns, the official Highway Code explains how to get left, get safe and get help.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Good to know before you enquire.

Useful answers about safe-location assistance, safe arrangements and what we can and cannot confirm online.

Can work happen in a motorway emergency area?

An emergency area is intended for emergencies and does not automatically provide a safe site for tyre fitting. Authorised procedures, recovery and other arrangements may be required.

Is a service station always suitable?

Not necessarily. Safe access, space, permission and the specific working conditions still need to be checked.

Can I send my live location?

You may be able to share location information when it is safe, but provide the route, direction and nearest junction or services as well. Do not use your phone while driving.

What happens if a mobile technician cannot work there?

Where an appropriate safe arrangement cannot be made, the next step may involve contacting the road operator or arranging recovery to a more suitable location.
